My new gig!

And now for something completely different…. I started teaching P.E./Dance at Rincon Valley Charter Middle School this fall. It is a bit of a departure from my usual, but I am enjoying the challenge. We do 90 minute blocks of dance concepts, drills and skills, cardio and strength fitness, health, and some crazy fun. We will be doing in depth lessons in creative, world and social dance throughout the year. It is such a cool offering for the students and I am delighted to be a part of this progressive dynamic school. Plus the kids amaze...

Hi there!

How many times in a week do I say “I really want to write a blog post about….”  But it doesn’t get done.  Time to get back in the habit –  So many things I want to share! I’ll ease in with short and sweet – a video about a man with a neurologic disorder who discovers that instead of brain surgery, he could ease his muscle spasms by putting music on and doing what Madonna says.  “Let your body move to the music”. It’s pretty amazing!   Post by The Globe and...

Flamenco – Olvidarme de ti

Until I get Gipsy Kings photos online, here is a youtube vid from a different live concert I did not attend (I wish!). I’m working on choreography for this one but concert footage is a must see – two passionate women (Spanish artists La Mari and her guest Bebe) sharing a love for music and an affection and admiration for each other. I just love it. Hope everyone is doing well! I have some schedule changes in progress. Please email if you have any questions! tina@sonomazumba.com

Gipsy Kings coming to Sonoma State

I just purchased a lawn seat for this concert.  It will be my 3rd time seeing them – the first was quite a while ago! In 1995 I was working up in the San Jacinto mountains at an outdoor school, perennially attired in fleece and hiking boots, and making $35 a day leading hikes and teaching science to 5th graders.  We lived fairly primitively in a dorm setting and it was a huge deal to buy these tickets, “dress up” (whatever our version of that was back then) and descend to the glittering glamour of LA for this concert,...

Safe bear viewing techniques3. Telling tall tales4. Do's and Don'ts of the Coleman Stove5. Lowering Ones expectations of the morning routine (i.e....

Video Series – Circle Pivot variations

I never like to take too much time out of our Zumba workout to explain some of the finer points of what we’re doing, but I also can see that so many of you are nailing the basics and maybe would enjoy some moves broken down or some tips on how to finesse your Zumba! Fortunately, my desire to create a few short and useful videos coincided perfectly with my budding film editor daughter wanting to earn some money towards buying a gymnastics tumbling mat. Voila! Below is our first cinematic production! Who’s bringing the...
